Route planning

ROUTE GUIDE

Croatia route guide

General information on customs, documents and border crossing. For situations specific to your cargo and product, consult your customs broker.

Route planning

Croatia is an EU member. Road routes from Türkiye usually pass through countries such as Bulgaria and Serbia; the route chosen depends on the document status of the cargo and border congestion. Because Serbia is not in the EU, the border between Serbia and Croatia is an external EU border.

Transit and import formalities

Because the cargo crosses the territory of several countries, it is usually carried under transit documents (a TIR carnet or a T1 transit declaration) and the document is discharged at the destination customs office. EU entry formalities are completed where the cargo is cleared; in transit transport this is the destination customs office.

Croatia is an EU member. Import formalities, taxes and the documents needed depend on the status of the goods. Confirm with your customs broker whether an A.TR or suitable proof of origin is appropriate before loading.

Transport permits

For transport through several countries, the bilateral agreement and permit situation of each country must be checked separately. For this reason the route plan and the permit plan are made together.

Delivery planning

Loading and delivery are planned around the selected route, border congestion, transit formalities and the delivery address.

Checklist before loading
  • The commercial invoice and packing list are ready; the required movement certificate or proof of origin has been confirmed.
  • The route and the countries to be crossed are clear for the transit document.
  • The consignee's EORI number has been obtained.
  • The delivery address and contact details are complete.
Common document issues
  • Quantities and weights on the commercial invoice and the packing list do not match.
  • The description of the goods is too general, so the customs tariff code cannot be determined.
  • The transit document is not discharged within its validity period; tax and penalty risk arises.
  • The consignee's telephone number and contact person are missing, which delays the delivery appointment.
