Together with transport

Warehousing is planned together with our freight operations on Balkan routes.

When is warehousing needed?

Transport and warehousing are often planned together. Warehousing comes into play when part load cargo from different senders is collected and consolidated into one vehicle, when cargo waits for its departure day, when products ready on different dates are turned into a single shipment, or when cargo is prepared before arrival.

What is done in the warehouse?

  • Receiving the cargo, counting it and checking its condition.
  • Palletising, stretch-wrapping and labelling.
  • Combining cargo of different senders according to shipments.
  • Waiting before shipment and dispatch planning.

What to pay attention to in warehousing

The first thing to clarify in a warehouse service is how long the cargo will stay and the dispatch plan. As the period lengthens, storage cost grows; so the period and the way the fee is calculated (per pallet or by volume) should be written clearly in the quote. The insurance cover of the cargo and the limits of responsibility inside the warehouse should also be agreed beforehand.

A customs warehouse (bonded warehouse) is a separate status subject to different rules from a normal warehouse; goods can be held there without customs duties being paid.

How is the storage fee calculated?

Storage fees are usually calculated by the number of pallets or the volume occupied and the length of stay. Services such as handling at entry and exit, palletising, labelling and counting can be separate items. When asking for a quote, it is useful to ask which services are included in the price, at what period the fee is calculated (daily, weekly, monthly) and whether there is a minimum stay.

Security and insurance

Who is responsible for risks such as fire and theft for cargo waiting in the warehouse, and the scope of insurance, should be clarified in writing. If the cargo is covered by your own insurance, you may need to inform your insurer before it enters the warehouse. If the value of the cargo is high, the insurance scope becomes a deciding criterion in choosing a warehouse.

Stock information and dispatch plan

When it is planned in advance when and in which pieces the waiting cargo will leave, dispatch is faster and unnecessary waiting costs do not arise. How information about the entry list, the exit list and the condition of the cargo in the warehouse will flow should be discussed at the quotation stage.

Who is warehousing suitable for?

Warehousing is useful for manufacturers who want to send products prepared on different dates in a single shipment, for those who ship part load and wait for consolidation, for companies holding seasonal stock and for exporters who want to prepare their products before arrival. The length of your need and how often cargo moves determine the right solution.

Steps in preparing for dispatch

  • Counting the cargo in the warehouse and comparing it with the entry list.
  • Completing palletising, stretch-wrapping and labelling.
  • Consolidating cargo according to the dispatch plan.
  • Checking the invoice, packing list, CMR and, where applicable, the customs declaration.
  • Loading the vehicle and recording the departure.

Common mistakes

  • Cargo arriving at the warehouse unpacked and unlabelled; counting and dispatch are delayed.
  • The entry list not matching the actual cargo.
  • Leaving cargo in the warehouse without clarifying the exit date.
  • Not asking about the insurance cover of stored cargo.
