In road shipments, a large part of the delays start not on the road but at the document stage. Because the required documents vary with the cargo and the destination country, checking them with your carrier before the shipment is the safest way.

Frequently requested documents

  • Invoice: Shows the buyer, description and value of the goods.
  • Packing list: Contains the packages, pallets, weights and dimensions. It must be consistent with the invoice.
  • CMR: The international road consignment note.
  • Export documents: Depending on the type of cargo, additional documents or permits may be needed.

This list is for general information. Confirm the current requirements for your cargo with your customs broker and official announcements.

A short check before loading

  1. Are the quantities on the invoice and the packing list the same?
  2. Are the consignee’s name and address identical on all documents?
  3. Do the weights and dimensions agree with what was notified to the carrier?
  4. Does the product need a special document or permit?

When should you notify the carrier?

Sharing the information before loading day saves time for vehicle planning and document checks. Any weight, address or product information that changes at the last moment must also be reported.
